When I walk busy city streets it's the distressed walls that get my attention - the layers of time. And I can't wait to get into my studio to maybe capture some essence of those surfaces. The more recent attention to industrial style and design has taken my artwork by storm and I can't get enough of layering various textures, patterns and stencils to get my desired piece. I tend to work intuitively, letting the colors and textures guide my direction. With or without the stenciling, I create surfaces that can be scraped away and added so that a distressed surface appears. The layers also influence the addition and subtraction of graphic elements, and the process continues until I feel comfortable with the composition.
